Laminated Coating: Enhancing Your Smile with Minimal Intervention

If you are looking for a way to improve the appearance of your teeth, a laminated coating may be the solution for you. This cosmetic dental procedure involves the application of thin porcelain laminates to the front of your teeth to correct misshaped, discoloured, or damaged teeth. At Dent Royal Dental Clinic in Izmir, Turkey, we specialise in providing high-quality dental treatments at affordable prices tailored specifically for our UK patients.

What is Laminated Coating?

Laminated teeth coating or dental laminates is a cosmetic procedure that involves the application of thin porcelain laminates to the front of your teeth. The process involves removing a small amount of tooth tissue by thinning 0.3-0.7 mm from the front surfaces of your teeth and then very lightly roughening the tooth surface to provide consistency. This method allows the porcelain laminates to be bonded to your teeth, providing a beautiful smile with perfect colour and texture harmony. Porcelain laminates are transparent and thin, providing a natural look with good light permeability.

When Can Laminated Coatings Be Applied?

Laminated coatings are a highly preferred type of coating in aesthetic dentistry. We apply them in a variety of situations, including:
  • People who do not like the shape of their teeth.
  • People with a smile design.
  • Incisors.
  • If you have molars that are fractured or worn.
  • As an alternative or complementary to orthodontic treatment.
  • Those with genetic disorders in tooth structure.
  • Correction of crooked or damaged tooth structure.
  • Yellowed and discoloured teeth that do not result in bleaching.
  • To increase the length of teeth.

When Can’t Laminated Coatings Be Applied?

While laminated coatings are an excellent solution for many people, they may not be suitable in some cases. We do not recommend laminated dental treatment for patients younger than 18 whose bones have not completely developed. It is also unsuitable for patients with severe tooth clenching, grinding problems, or various illnesses.

Advantages of Laminated Coatings

Laminated coatings offer several advantages over other cosmetic dental procedures, including:
  • Minimum sensitivity, even if a tiny part of the tooth is irritated.
  • A small intervention provides a healthy and natural appearance in a very short time.
  • Laminated coating applications do not change colours; they are durable materials.
  • Due to its light transmittance, it is difficult to distinguish it from natural teeth.
  • It has a natural structure.
  • They are not affected by factors that cause discolouration on teeth, such as coffee, tea, or cigarettes. There is no colour change on the laminated coating.
  • Their surfaces are incredibly smooth. They have a natural and smooth texture when you run your tongue over them.
  • They are durable, aesthetic, and made of high-strength materials.
  • It is nonallergic.
  • Preparation time is short since there is no infrastructure.
  • You will spend little time in the dental chair as they are applied quickly.

How Long Does a Laminated Coating Treatment Take?

If the patient has no dental problems, applying laminated tooth coating takes 2 or 3 sessions, which can be completed over the course of a week.  At the first appointment, we take measurements of the teeth to be covered. In the second appointment, we place laminated leaf veneers on the teeth. In the third appointment, we check the application of the laminated coatings.

How Should Laminate Coating Care Be?

Laminated teeth coating is straightforward and involves the following:

Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.

Use dental floss and mouthwash in addition to brushing teeth.

Do not use the front teeth when chewing hard foods.

Use a night plate if you have the habit of clenching or grinding your teeth.

Abandon nail-biting habits.

Don’t neglect your routine six-month check-up.
